Snippets

  • I had a great hair day yesterday.  Doesn't happen often here.  But at the end of the day, the temptation to touch Miss Angie's hair was too great and Miss Angie's energy level was too low, and that equaled a group of girls braiding my hair.  Or at least that's what I thought they were doing.  Until one of the girls said, "F, pa fe sa! (F, don't do that!)  And then Ruth's eyes focused on my head, she gasped, and said, "I don't think you want to see that."  I made the girls stop, walked inside (while feeling the 2 nannies staring at me), looked in the mirror and refused to panic.  The sweet baby girl, who wanted to make Miss Angie's hair beautiful, had wrapped my long hair around a comb 5 or 6 times.  From different angles.  In different directions.  The one nanny called me back outside, where she patiently, over the next 20 minutes, somehow freed my hair from the comb.  I don't know how she did it.  Everyone marveled at how red my scalp was from the trauma, I talked to F and told her I wasn't mad or sad, because I love her too much to get upset about my hair.
  • Spent time with a team from Brazil.  Twelve congregations were represented by their group, five of the team members being pastors.  I shared with them my story of how I thought I would be serving at an orphanage in Brazil, and how I somehow felt like them visiting was bringing something full circle.  They prayed over me, and asked God to bless my ministry abundantly.  They all asked if I was married...I said, 'Why don't you pray about that one?' :)
  • We have received blessing after blessing to provide food for our children.
  • Hurricane Irene saw all the prayers going up over and for Haiti, and she turned course.  We are 3 for 3 on praying the hurricanes and tropical storms away from Port au Prince.  My God IS the one who commands the wind and the waves!!!!  Hallelujah!
  • Our sweet Vanessa is walking...check out her update here.
  • Leaving next week to go to the States for a few weeks.  Will celebrate Heather and Tim's marriage, some good times with friends and family, and probably some adventures will be had.  Can't wait to get my love tank full of good family and friend time!
  • We had plague and pestilence in the apartment recently.  We have these crazy winged bugs come in randomly, which we promptly smashed on the wall.  Our guests were not amused, but when we stepped back to see what awesome bug killers we are, we saw the mouse go running into the kitchen.  Today flies invaded.  Are we revisiting the plagues Haitian style???
  • Found out that avocados help keep you 'regular'.  Hmmm....
  • Was pleasantly surprised when fresh fish Thursday became beef stew Thursday today.  tasty.
  • Been spending a lot of time talking with God.  Maybe I need to spend equal time listening?
  • Hit a bump so hard with the old van yesterday that I flew up off the seat and whacked my head on the ceiling.  Ruth found the entire incident funny, but it kind of brought out my 'need anger-management' side.  No one was injured in the remaining part of the drive.
